Javascript and CSS

This week we utilized a mix of Javascript and CSS and the DOM to apply CSS effects to elements. I don't have a strong grasp on the material as of yet but I will put some hours into things this week for sure to catch up. AJAX is finally upon us, but I fear my foundation is a bit thin right now. On the plus side, I built my first computer and it's a monster! ~Jason

More Javascript Fun

We learned more about the DOM and some ways to manipulate it using Javascript. Using loops, variables, arrays, and an arsenal of new syntax and functions we were able to make a nice image gallery. Certainly a start and large step forward in our journey of learning about the dynamic side of web design. I finished the homework this week all today, but I read the lectures throughout the week to let the new concepts sink in. I always refered to by best friend, Google for some supplimental tutorials on the basics of looping and other such things. Another completed week of CIS233 and another stellar lecture series by Steve. Looking forward to Ch10. ~Jason

Javascript

Finished the homework for this week. I skipped the recommended prerequisite class of Javascript171, so this week was by far the most challenging. As a result, I took some initiative and did some research on del.icio.us for Javascripting tutorials. I found a couple that I didn't bother to save but needless to say I've got a solid grasp on the general syntax and structure for variables, loops, functions etc. I'm looking forward to using the Javascript with the DOM to make some snazzy effects next week. As always Steve, you're doing an exemplary job with the screencasts, lectures, and discussions. Thanks. ~Jason

Done... (for real this time)

Ran out of time this week, but I got the majority of points. The meyer's assignment took me by surprise despite the added benefit of lecture times added to the presentations. Overall the information of padding, margins, borders, background images, and colors was good. Things are beginning to get more exciting and I can't wait until we delve into Floats. What a pandoras box and blessing those can be. Until next week~

Backgorund images/ color stuff

Spent exactly an hour tonight. Entire lesson was a repeat of knowledge I've already aquired, but the presentation and hands on learning made the review engaging and an overall good refresher. Strong signs of a great teacher. I do have one question so far (I finished up to 5.4 this evening). For problem 5.2, I am curious as to why we had to increase the specificity of the anchor to change the border color. I'll finish the lectures and check the discussion tomorrow for some insight.

CSS Stuff

Lesson 4 on Typography has been all but completed. The CSS for this blog now uses nothing but Typography declarations and basic coloring. I'm looking forward to furthering my Final Project after this post and also to eventually getting permission to use layout declarations such as floating and such. This lesson took me about 4 or so hours over the week. Until next time... ~Jason
